Opening JAN. 9, 2010
Open every weekend and holidays
(including Maine school vacation weeks), lower mountain only.
The latest snowfall has left us a winter wonderland!
Big
Squaw Mountain Resort is located in the beautiful Moosehead
Lake Region of Maine, home to Moosehead Lake, which is forty miles long
and 20 miles wide at its widest point. Truly the edge of the wilderness
of the Great North Woods.
Big
Squaw Mountain Resort has one of the most spectacular
views in the world. Sights include Mount Kineo who's sheer 800
foot cliffs plunge into Moosehead Lake , Spencer Mountains, and
of course Mount Katahdin which is Maine's highest point and the
end of the Appalachian Trail. We are truly the end of the line.
The view can not be described by words alone. But the words that
came to the mind of one world traveler was simply "prehistoric
and untouched".
Big
Squaw Mountain Resort boasts spectacular old fashioned
New England skiing with thirty-three trails designed by world
famous ski trail designer Sel Hannah to entice beginners to experts.
It is an experience similar to a trek thru the forest but on
the chair lift. A true difference to some other New England mountains.
Don't forget to try out our new glades, one of the largest glades
in the east. Our Glade trails (tree skiing) were personally hand
crafted by an expert boarder.
Big
Squaw Mountain Resort has snowmaking capabilities on
seventy percent of it's terrain. Professional grooming provides
unbelievable smooth powdery surfaces for your skiing / boarding
pleasure. Big Squaw Mountain trails were designed by the world
class trail designer Sel Hannah who was commonly called the
Donald Ross of the ski resort trail designers. Sel said about Squaw
Mountain - "Of all the trails I have designed the Penobscot
Trail at Big Squaw Mountain is by far the most scenic".
